What's New with CRInfo Version IV

CRInfo Version IV is much more than a routine system update. It is a complete rebuild of the site which offers dramatic improvements in coverage, performance, and power over earlier versions. Among the many improvements to be found in this version of CRInfo are the following:

Improved Search Results
With our new search engine, CRInfo is now able to rank search results according to topic relevance and replace the old, alphabetical or random listing of resources.

Topic-Oriented Browse Structure
For each of the almost 600 conflict resolution-related topics covered by the system, we now offer, in one place, all available resources including: quick definitions, summary articles, short lists of recommended readings, full bibliographies, and, occasionally, news articles. This approach allows people to find and browse virtual bookshelves with just a couple of clicks from the opening page.

Performance Improvements
The once sluggish CRInfo system has received a major performance upgrade with many requests now processed 10 times faster.

Streamlined Search System
CRInfo's once bewildering array of search options have been replaced by a unified new system which combines the best features of the old system along with a number of useful new capabilities. (For power users, a full set of advanced options is also available.)

Browse System
The old confusing collection of editions and endless browse menus has been replaced with a much more concise system which 600 peace and conflict resolution-related topics organized into four major categories Understanding Conflict, Conflict Types, ADR, and Peace Processes.

News
CRInfo's "news crawler" system indexes current, conflict-related articles from hundreds of daily newspapers worldwide. This searchable and browsable database contains a continually updated collection of approximately 5000 articles published during the past week.

Editor Recommendations
To limit information overload, CRInfo Version IV now includes short lists of recommended resources on 200 topics from CRInfo's panel of 10 outside editors and an additional 225 topics from the 100+ expert participants in the Beyond Intractability project.

Summary Articles
Our new "executive summary" articles provide users with a quick and succinct source of information on almost 70 key topics. These articles are supplemented with links to over 200 more detailed articles from our sister project, Beyond Intractability.

"Color" Column
All pages now include a continually changing right-hand column, featuring quotable quotes highlighting the field's key insights; links to organizations making especially strong contributions to the field; information about CRInfo partner projects; and pictures highlighting a variety of noteworthy, conflict-related people, places, and events (including, for example, Nobel Peace Prize winners).

Education
CRInfo's educational section provides both instructors and students with an extensive collection of online learning tools as well as links to information about elementary, secondary, and higher education programs as well as professional training.

Networking
Designed to help integrate users into the extensive web of people and organizations working in the conflict resolution-related fields, our networking section includes information on conferences and other events, professional associations, online discussions and organizations working in the field.
